Data Sources and Constraints
Data Descriptions and Limitations
Most of the data layers presented (excluding well spots) were obtained from the Montana State Library Natural Resource Information System (NRIS). For specifics on Metadata, Source Scale, and Currentness Reference, click on the Layer name from the Layer Management menu.
The well spot calculations were performed using the footage calls in RBDMS when available or calculated by spotting the well in the center of the Quarter, Quarter, Quarter sections when no footage information was available. Both of the calculations were performed utilizing an application that recognizes the location of the section lines in geographic space and calculates the well spots based on these locations. More information about the details of this process can be obtained by contacting MBOGC directly.
Each of these datasets were produced independently and therefore were produced at different source scales. When known, each independent source scale is listed in the legend. Each independent layer's metadata describes the history of the data, who created it, currentness of the data, etc. and are also provided as a link in the legend.
Please Note: No decisions should be made without proper consideration of each individual layer's scale constraints
